One of the most popular sportscasters in our region, Northern News Network's Rocky Erickson has been responsible for the play-by-play coverage of over 1500 high school and college ball games since he began his career in broadcasting in 1982. As News Operation Director, Erickson provides a network of over 50 Montana and Wyoming radio stations with sports programming that includes Colorado Rockies Baseball, Denver Broncos Football, a daily regional outdoor program, a daily rodeo feature, and for his Montana listeners, his own "Montana Sports" program which he produces himself each weekday morning.
Regular listeners of "Montana Sports" are continually amazed by the historical detail and human perspective that Rocky Erickson brings to his show. A walking encyclopedia of Montana athletic history, Erickson features the voices of dozens of guests on his show each month, along with the scores and the highlights of Montana sporting events, large and small.
Raised on family's eastern Montana wheat farm at Vida, Rocky Erickson graduated from High School in Wolf Point and received his degree in Telecommunications from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. During 10 years with the Enterprise Network, Erickson worked for their stations in Glendive and in Billings, where he was Sales Manager for KURL Radio. Rocky and his wife Kristi have two children and continue to make their home in Billings where he still does free-lance sports casting.
Rocky Erickson is a eight-time winner of the "Montana Sportscaster of the Year" award from the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, solid evidence of the respect that his peers have for his work! Features Erickson has developed on the Northern Sports Network include special network broadcasts of the Montana/Wyoming High School All-Star basketball game and the historic Shrine Football Game.
No wonder listeners have come to depend on Rocky Erickson as "the Sports Authority" in Northern News Network Country!
