Idaho State Veterinarian Comments on Brucellosis Discovery

On Wednesday December 2nd, the discovery of one cow in eastern Idaho testing positive for Brucellosis, caused cattle producers to shudder…and to contemplate the impact on their industry.

 
As we have reported earlier the cow is 15 years old, and is one of the 600 that have been put together over the past two years in a herd in Teton County, which is straight south of West Yellowstone, along the Wyoming border.

MDOL ANNOUNCES OUTREACH EFFORTS FOR BRUCELLOSIS COMMENTS

The Montana Department of Livestock today announced a cooperative outreach plan to provide information about its surveillance proposal for areas with risk of brucellosis transmission from wildlife to livestock. The outreach plan, which follows on a draft order presented to the Board of Livestock at its Nov. 17 meeting, includes MDOL presentations at upcoming producer group meetings, two public meetings, and the creation of a work group.

LAST DAY TO COMMENT ON NEW NATIONAL BRUCELLOSIS PLAN!

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has published a concept paper describing a "new direction" for the nation's bovine brucellosis program. They want suggestions in the form of public comments before they move forward.

SHELBY, MT RAIL RATE SUCCESSFULLY MEDIATED

Montana Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF), Montana Grain Growers Association (MGGA) and BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) today announced that they have successfully mediated a rate dispute under the Agreement to Administer Alternative Dispute Resolution dated Jan. 30, 2009. The three parties met Tuesday to mediate a dispute filed by a Shelby, Mont. area producer.

MORE MONTANA COUNTIES LISTED AS DISASTER AREAS

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated Garfield, Lake, Sanders, Toole and Valley Counties in Montana as a primary natural disaster area due to losses caused by drought and other disasters that occurred in 2009.

MT FARM BUREAU LETTER TO BOARD OF LIVESTOCK
