March is Brain Injury Awareness Month With Survivor Ian Elliot
On Mondays Voices of Montana radio show, Ian Elliot joined us to speak on Brain Injuries and the Brain Injury Alliance of Montana.
Ian Elliot is a brain injury survivor and speaks at many state-wide meetings, conferences and social functions spreading the word on brain injury, Its causes and what we can do to reduce our risk of brain injuries.
Ian told us that Montana ranks number three in the nation per capita, on brain injury deaths plus our neighbors to the south, The state of Wyoming is number four.
According to Mr Elliot, The leading cause of brain injury in Montana, is domestic abuse. Other reasons include substance abuse, motor vehicle crashes, rodeo and living the outdoor lifestyle.
Mr Elliot is a survivor of a motor vehicle crash in which he fell asleep at the wheel on the interstate near Livingston.
The Brain Injury Alliance of Montana has several groups that meet in several cities across the state including, Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, Missoula, Libby, Crow Agency, and Lame Deer.
