All Roads To Augusta Closed After 8 Inches Of Rain Causes Serious Flooding

Heavy rain pelting the Rocky Mountain Front caused serious flooding in the Augusta area Tuesday and closed all highways leading to the town. The National Weather Service in Great Falls said the mountains above Augusta had seen 8 inches of rain in the last three days, causing the Sun and Dearborn rivers and area creeks to quickly reach flood stage.

Grizzly Panel Delays Bear Recovery Strategy

The strategy guiding recovery of the largest grizzly bear population in the lower 48 states got its debut on Tuesday, but didn’t get its expected endorsement from the interagency Grizzly Bear Committee. IGBC Chairman Matt Hogan of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said early in the group’s summer meeting that the public needed more time to review the 326-page document. It’s final version was released online late Friday afternoon.

County May Give Away Desks, Cubicles, Cabinets From Vacant Northwestern Energy Building In Uptown Butte

Butte-Silver Bow might soon give away scores of desks, cubicles, and filing cabinets from the vacant NorthWestern Energy building at 40 East Broadway in Uptown Butte. But if that happens, says Community Development Director Karen Byrnes, it won’t be the kind of free-for-all that took place when people were allowed to take what they wanted from the Copper King Hotel before renovations began.
