Rocky Notes From 71st East – West Shrine Football Game
Now days every level of football is high scoring. The 71st East – West Shrine football game was no different. In the first quarter alone the two ball clubs combined for more than 300 yards of offense! The final score the East 38 the West 24! The 38 points scored by the East the 5th most in series history, the 62 combined points the 3rd most!
This is the first time that the East has one outside of the city of Great Falls since they started the three city rotation! Before Saturday the West was 3-0 in Butte and 2-0 in Laurel. The hero for the East, Billings Senior Q.B. Nathan Dick. This young man the 2016 Montana Gatorade Football Player of the year is one amazing athlete! Dick was in on four touch downs, as he threw for three and ran for one. He also had 366 yards of total offense. Now he may be just 5-9 but the Griz are going to give him a chance at quarter back. If that does not work I’m sure he will become an All Big Sky Conference wide receiver!
Other players who stood out. Another future Griz player is 6-4 210 pound W.R. Matthew Rensvold of Polson. All Mr. Rensvold did was have 11 catches for 140 yards and one score. Helena High running back Ryan Arntson of Helena High also came up big with 110 rushing yards on just 12 carries. On the very first play from scrimmage he ran for 54 yards!
Plus one of my favorite players to watch…..5-9 160 pound Cannan Smith of Eureka. I believe he made every single tackle when the East team punted.
