MT Birding Group takes wing
Even though it wasn’t officially spring yet, about 15 members of the fledgling Birding/Outdoor Group were in Miles City’s Wibaux Park March 16 trying to catch a glimpse of some birds. Enthusiasm levels were high, binoculars were at the ready, and there were a few species spotted. There was a brief conversation about whether one specimen was a hairy or a downy woodpecker, but either would have been welcome. Add to that several starlings, Eurasian collared doves and the less-popular pigeons, and watchers got a little taste of the season to come.
Unfortunately, a spring squall drifted through about that time, cutting the outing short. But it was almost time for the group’s second meeting, so they moved indoors to nearby Miles Community College. Members heard from two speakers: Steve Regele of the Yellowstone Valley Audubon Chapter in Billings talked about YVAC’s focus and offered advice and resources to the Miles City group; and FWP Region 7 Wildlife Biologist Jesse Kolar talked about the eBird website and application.
